# How To Archive A "Value Unit"

Value units are the units of measure your company estimates in — SF, EA, LS, Acre and the rest. Over time the list collects units nobody uses any more. Archiving one takes it out of the dropdowns without deleting it, and you can restore it at any time.

To archive a "Value Unit" follow these steps.

Press the "gear" icon in the bottom left corner to open your company settings, then select "Value Units" under "Configuration". Every unit is listed with its "Number of Decimals" and a "Status" of either "Active" or "Archived".

Find the unit you want to retire, press the "three dot" menu at the right hand end of its row, and choose "Archive Value Unit".

Tick "I want to archive this value unit" and press the "Archive" button. The tick is required — the button will not go through without it.

The unit disappears from the list. That is expected: the list shows active units by default, and the unit is now archived rather than deleted.

To see your archived units, press the "Filter" button near the upper right corner and set the "Archived" filter. It offers "Active", "Archived" and "All".

With "Archived" selected the unit is listed again, this time with an "Archived" badge in the "Status" column.

To bring it back, press the "three dot" menu on the archived unit and choose "Restore Value Unit", then tick "I want to restore this value unit" and press "Restore". It returns to the active list straight away.

Please note that the point of archiving is what it does everywhere else in Zebel: an archived unit is no longer offered when you pick a unit of measure, so nobody can choose it by accident on a new estimate. Use it for units you have replaced or misspelled rather than deleting them.
