# How To Duplicate An Existing Estimate

Duplicating an estimate copies its template, its comps and its inputs into a new estimate, so you can start a new version or a similar project from work you have already done instead of building it from scratch.

To duplicate an existing estimate follow these steps.

Navigate to the "Estimate" button located at the horizontal top menu options.

Press the "Add Estimate" button on the upper right corner and select "Duplicate Existing Estimate".

Press the "Estimate To Copy" dropdown, select the project that holds the estimate you are copying, then select the estimate itself from the list that opens beside it.

Under "New Estimate Details", choose where the new estimate goes. "Existing Project" adds it to a project you already have; "New Project" creates one.

Fill in the "Record Details". "Phase" and "Version" are required — the rest ("Date", "Buyout Date", "Record Type", "Status", "Construction Type") carry sensible defaults you can change.

Turn on "Duplicate Documents and Drawings" if you want the files from the original estimate copied across as well. It is off by default, so the new estimate starts without them unless you ask for them.

Press the "Continue" button.

Review the "Configure Inputs" step. This is the "Conceptual" and "Detailed" inputs panel, pre-filled with the values from the estimate you copied — adjust anything that differs on the new project.

Press the "Continue" button to open your new estimate.

NOTE, the project list in step 4 only offers projects of the same type as the estimate you are copying. Duplicating a hospital estimate shows you hospital projects, because the estimate's template is built around that project type.

NOTE, the new estimate is created when you press "Continue" at the end of step 7, not at the end. Step 8 is adjusting an estimate that already exists, so if you navigate away there you will find it waiting on the "Estimates" page rather than losing it.

We recommend duplicating rather than starting fresh whenever you are producing a new version of an estimate you have already priced — the template, comps and inputs come across, so you only change what has actually moved.
