# How To Include Or Exclude A Comp With The Quick Comp Toggle

When your estimate carries comps, each cost item is priced from the comps you have chosen for it. The toggle in a comp's column lets you drop that comp out of a single line — or put it back — without removing it from the estimate, so you can price one item off a different set of history to the rest.

To include or exclude a comp on a cost item follow these steps.

Navigate to the desired estimate and select the "Budget & Inputs" tab.

Find the comp columns on the right of the table. Each one is headed with the comp's name and record.

Find the cost item you want to change and look at the toggle in that comp's column. Blue means the comp is being used to price this item; grey means it is not.

Press the toggle to drop that comp out of this item's pricing. The "Unit Cost" and "Total Cost" for the row recalculate immediately, and so do the totals at the top and bottom of the table.

Press it again to bring the comp back.

NOTE, the unit cost of a row is the average of the comps switched on for it. In the example, "Project Management" has Green Valley at $36,575.00 and Starlight at $29,000.00 — with both on, the unit cost is $32,787.50, the average of the two. Switching Green Valley off leaves only Starlight, so the unit cost becomes $29,000.00 and the row total falls from $229,512.50 to $203,000.00 across its 7.00 Acre quantity.

NOTE, the toggle is unavailable on total and subtotal rows — those are the sum of the items beneath them, so there is nothing to include or exclude. Change the items instead.

We recommend using this when one comp is a genuine outlier on a single trade rather than across the job — a project that had exceptional site conditions, say. Switching it off for that one line keeps the rest of your comparison intact.
