# How To Modify An "Indirect Cost" Formula

To modify an "**Indirect Cost**" formula in your template(s) follow these steps.

1\. Navigate to global "**Settings**" button located at the horizontal top menu options.

2\. Once in settings, navigate to the "**Configuration**" section located on the left vertical menu.

3\. Select "**Record Templates**".

4\. Select the template which you wish to modify.

5\. Select the "**Indirect Costs**" tab.

6\. Click into the "**Formula**" field of the indirect cost you wish to modify.

7\. Amend/edit the formula as desired.

Please note that "**Indirect Cost**" formulas can reference the "**Total Direct Costs**", specific "**Cost Category**" totals & other "**Indirect Costs**". If referencing other "**Indirect Costs**", the referenced "**Indirect Costs**" must be above the "**Indirect Cost**" you are wanting to modify to avoid a circular reference.
