# How To Read The "Tags" Analytics
Cost tags let you mark cost codes with whatever cross-cutting label matters to you — where a number came from, whether it is union work, which allowance it belongs to. The "Tags" analytics page turns those marks into money: what each tag is worth, what share of its group it is, and what share of the whole estimate.
To read the "Tags" analytics follow these steps.
Navigate to the desired estimate, select the "Analytics" tab, and choose "Tags" from the list on the left.
Pick which tag group you are looking at from the dropdown near the upper left corner. Each tag group is a separate question — "Budget Source" and "Union / Prevailing Wage" in the screenshot — so the whole page changes with it.
Read the three figures across the top.
"Total Direct Cost" — the estimate's direct cost, for context.
"\[Tag group\] Total Cost" — how much of that carries any tag from this group.
"\[Tag group\] Percent of Direct Cost" — the second as a share of the first. Ie. 7.9% of the estimate is tagged for "Budget Source".
The two charts answer two different questions. "Percent of \[tag group\] Cost by Tag" splits the tagged money between the tags in the group. "Percent of Total Direct Cost by Tag" puts those same tags against the whole estimate, with the untagged remainder in grey — so you can see both how the group divides and how much of the estimate it touches.
The table beneath gives the numbers: each tag's "Total Cost", its "% of \[tag group\]", and its "% of Total Direct Cost".
To see what is actually behind a number, press the "three dot" menu at the right hand end of a tag's row and choose "View Cost Codes". A panel opens listing the cost codes carrying that tag, which you can expand to the fields and detail rows beneath.
Press "Export" near the upper right corner to take it with you — "Export to CSV" for the numbers, "Export to Report" to build an estimate report from it, and "Export to HTML" for a shareable page.
Please note that the percentages only count cost codes you have tagged. If a tag group covers half your estimate, the shares in the first chart are shares of that half — the second chart is the one that tells you how much of the estimate you have actually tagged.
