# How To Use The "Market Data" Filters

The Market Data page compares your company's historical projects against the wider market. The filters narrow both sets to the projects worth comparing against — a region, a construction type, a delivery window — so the unit costs you are reading are drawn from projects like the one you are pricing.

To filter market data follow these steps.

Select "Market" from the left hand navigation.

Choose the sector at the top of the page. I.e.. "Mixed-Use Multifamily".

Set what you are measuring using the two dropdowns near the upper left corner — the cost basis, ie. "Total Construction Cost", and the unit it is divided by, ie. PER "Building Exterior SF". Use the "Escalated" toggle beside them to escalate historical costs to today's dollars.

Press the "Filters" button near the upper right corner. The filter bar opens beneath it.

Press any filter to open it and tick the values you want. I.e.. "Construction Type" offers "Type I" through "Type V" and "Various".

Each filter has "Clear All" and "Select All" buttons so you can start from either end.

The filters available are the sector's own types, "Location", "Construction Type", "Record Status", "Buyout Date", "Union Status", "Design Data", "Data Type" and "Construction Scope". Use the arrow at the right hand end of the bar to reach any that do not fit on screen.

The charts, the project map and the counts near the upper right corner update as you go. The two counts — "Market Projects" and "Company Projects" — tell you how much data each filter combination is leaving you with.

Watch those counts. If you filter too far, Zebel tells you "Not enough market data exists for the selected filters" and falls back to showing your company data on its own. Widen a filter to bring the market set back.

Please note that the filters are held in the page address, so a filtered view can be copied out of the address bar and shared with a colleague — they will open the same set of filters you were looking at.
